Finding the Beat: Who’s Listening to Mobile Gaming Soundtracks?

I turned to my coworker this morning and told her I was writing an article on mobile game soundtracks. Her response was “Oh, I always turn my sound off when I play my mobile games.” As I’ve been researching stats and information about mobile game soundtracks, I’m stumbling upon this sentiment quite frequently. Some folks prefer to listen to their own music while they tap through their handheld platformers, puzzles, and card games. Some silence their phones so not to disturb public areas. And some players just find that most mobile game music is not terribly exciting. Back in 2013 a survey was conducted by a company that made it easier for devs to add sounds to their apps. Not surprisingly they found that 73% of mobile game users play their games with the sound on. Obviously I find this study suspect. However, this was the only data I could locate on the topic. So, I ran my own little informal study. 100% of my respondents (roughly 50 people) said that they typically turn off music whil

The Best Games of 2017 list is broken up into seven main categories: Most competitive, Most Social, Best Indie, Most Innovative, Best to Pick Up & Play, Best for Kids, and Most Popular. Among those categories, one big winner was chosen. While the best-game trophy went to Cats: Crash Arena Turbo Stars, Cooking Craze owned the Best to Pick Up & Play category.
The top five best Play Store game apps – according to Google – within the Pick Up & Play category:

#1 Cooking Craze

This time management cooking game allows you to travel around the world building a restaurant empire. Limited to specific time periods per level, you must cook and serve local dishes to satisfy your customers and advance to the next city. It’s a fast-paced game that is fun and challenging at the same time. Do you have what it takes to be a fast chef?

#2 Pokémon: Magikarp Jump

Most of you probably have heard of Pokémon; this isn’t that game. This casual game is built around one emotion – humor. The Pokémon Company took its weakest creature and built a game around training it to jump. It might sound a little ridiculous but that doesn’t stop it from being a very entertaining title and pleasant time-killer.

#3 Bubble Witch 3 Saga

This one has been around for a while and continues to add to its story. Bubble Witch is back with new levels, new art, and more magical mischief. The object of the game is to match bubbles and burst them to pass levels.

#4 Homescapes

Similar to its parent – Gardenscapes – Homescapes is a match-3 game with story – building off of the main character in Gardenscapes. In Homescapes, players are taken to the mansion of Austin’s parents. The object of the game is to beat match-3 levels to unlock new chapters and items that enable you to spruce up the mansion.

#5 Postknight

For those who are fans of old RPG games – Postknight might be a game for you. Players play as Postknight – a knight that makes dangerous deliveries through a magical kingdom. It’s a light-hearted adventure game that doesn’t require its players to spend long hours to advance – rather it breaks up its content its snackable sizes.
